Take steps to curb absenteeism

"A study by the Alliance for Excellent Education found that across the
nation, almost 7,000 students drop out every day, 1.2 million a year.
About 7 percent of Louisiana's student population — about 14,000 — drop
out each year."

"The national figure shows the cost of providing for dropouts is about
$800 per taxpayer across the country. A dropout costs himself in lost
potential and earnings, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and ignorance to
continue.

Identifying what works and what doesn't is a critical part of the
problem-solving. Uniforms and incentives don't work when it comes to
getting students on the right track, says Cash. Instead he advocates
multiple pathways to graduation, safe and caring learning environments
and a rigorous curriculum."
